our range of horses 

Our horses are made to order and to suit your requirements; prices are normally quoted for individual orders for a horse.

Our Rocking Horses are hand carved and made traditionally either on bow rockers or a safety swing stand. They are made from hard wood with a polished finish or painted. All horses are finished to the finest standard, silky smooth to the touch, as each horse is sanded by hand, for many hours, with no humps or bumps, to get the finest smooth finish that only Sam will allow his horses to be.

Polished horses are brought to a fine sheen.

Painted horses, whatever paint colour, all are treated with freshly made Gesso (pronounced jess-o), like all great artworks are. Each painted horse can be painted to your requirement by Sarah or Sam.

Horses can be painted to any requirements, from a realistic image to a favourite pet, traditional dapple or painted flags. Sarah paints in a more realistic style, Appaloosa horses being her favourite to paint.

Safety stands or bow rockers can be waxed, oiled, varnished or painted as you require. Just be aware that to make the best rocking horses means it takes time; the best things cannot be rushed and have to sit around for months for the wood to rest, so please give us time to make your heirloom.

Sam Glass Rocking Horses is not a factory but a unique workshop. 

Any horse that hasn't taken a long time in it's process is likely to have been mass produced, Sam Glass Rocking Horses is not a factory but an artisan master craftman.

Because Sam offer a bespoke service, horses are individually priced to your requirements. However, below is a list of prices to give you an idea of what we can supply.

Extra small, ‘doll-size’ (Bows only and no tack) real hair, 35 ½ inches long x 9 ½ inches wide x 21 ½ inches high to top of head (90cm x 24cm x 55 cm), horse can be waxed or painted to your requirements. This horse comes without tack as it is very much an ornamental piece of art.

All our other horses have real horse hair, leather tack and quality metal fittings.

Small (Bows or stand, tacked) 40 inches long x 16 inches wide x 34 inches high (102cm x 40cm x 86cm), horse can be waxed or painted to your requirements.

Medium (Bows or stand, tacked) 50 inches long x 18 inches wide x 42 inches high (127cm x 45cm x 107cm), horse can be waxed or painted to your requirements.

Large (Bows or stand, tacked) 60 inches long x 20 inches wide x 49 inches high (152cm x 50cm x 125cm), horse can be waxed or painted to your requirements.
